The Trees

deforestation1.jpg

I once heard the sound of the wind in the trees,
I once heard the peels of laughter of the children,
But cruel hands came and cut down the trees,
And the wind had to stop, the laughters cease...

And I wept warm salted tears for the lost trees,
And I wept for the silence that swept therein,
"Please let the children come under the trees,
For they need laughter and hope and release..."

There's only rubble where there used to be trees,
There's only a cold, heavy deafening silence,
No longer will children come under the trees,
For greed is a monster no one can appease...
