The wind strokes the leaves slowly
I lean back on the steady tree
And close my eyes, lose myself
In a past time and place
Memories flash through my mind
Why should I bury them away?
For if I ever did such a thing
I would be destroying a part of myself
Without recollection, where would we be?
Repeating the same thing continuously
Forgetting everything we have ever done
Never learning from our errs
What a loss it would be!
Good memories would not be relived together
We would never flip through a scrapbook
And proudly declare, 'Remember when?'
Sure, some times we need to forget
And start over on a black page
But some things, that we depend on unknowingly
We must preserve with great care
Like a squirrel and her acorns
Or birds' migration as seasons change
Some decisions should never be forgotten
Some events too important to leave behind
Stand up and shout aloud
Who you are and where you're from
Don't you realize, soon this will also be,
A memory to look back on?
