Thoughts

A Tapestry Poem by Shernaz Wadia & Avril Meallem

Thoughts by Shernaz

I try to trace them
in the latitudes and longitudes of my mind

They evade me
like some lazybones dodging their duty

My head dizzy from their absence
I hopefully try to meditate.

Ah! There they begin to swarm
like buzzing mosquitoes, I can’t swat
those unwanted meddlesome monkeys

Thoughts by Avril

Springing up from an unknown source;
creative, destructive, joyful, sad,
uninvited they flash across the screen of my mind.
Dictate my emotions at every moment of the day.
Take me on a rollercoaster ride through life.
Transport me on strange journeys throughout the night.
Can I stop their flow?
No - but I can choose how I react to them,
and there lies the path to peace.

like buzzing mosquitoes I can’t swat.
Can I stop their flow?

Creative, destructive, joyful, sad,

dictate my emotions at every moment of the day.
Transport me on strange journeys throughout the night.
Taken on a rollercoaster ride through life,
my head is dizzy.
Can I evade them

No - but in trying to meditate
I can choose how I react to them
and there lies the path to peace.
