Poetry

It is not at all good enough
For poetry to be just poetry
At times it must act a strict father
And other times a loving mother
Poetry must be a path to future
And also feet of some wayfarer

If poetry just stands and looks on
The wreck of crops by wild beasts
It gloats the death of young crops
Then such poetry is not poetry.
It is din of footloose words.

Really, the birth of true poetry
Is greater than that of a nation
Nations can miserably tumble
Or be broken into many pieces
But the true poetry stays intact
In the heart of sensitive earth,
It grows hopes of posterities

So poetry should not stoop
Down before any earthly force
It must stand tall as a lamp post
And boldly lead the misled nation.

Comment That is poetry with social commitment and purpose capable of bringing about a catharsis of human psyche. We don't usually find it these days. Well said, Prof. Sarkunde Sir.
