World Water Day (22nd March)

As Sun mercilessly beats down,
Our faces cringe into a frown.
All around many worry and sigh,
As one by one, taps become dry...

Where does all the rainwater go?
Into which drains does it all flow?
Questions are asked every year,
Answers are the same, it’d appear.

From mandating harvesting of rain,
Why do authorities always refrain?
Is it a well-planned, deliberate ploy
To keep water tankers in their employ?

Water issues need immediate addressing,
Before they become more distressing.
Let’s conserve water irrespective of season,
And utilize it sensibly and with a reason.

It is seen in times of water scarcity,
That water is stored beyond necessity.
This excess water is into the drain thrown
When next water supply time is known.

Water is precious and rare.
It is time we begin to care,
About its conservation,
About its preservation.
