Chennai City, Jai Ho!

This courageous mother,
Even in time of her grief,
Decided to help another,
With a missionary brief.

Her son lay brain dead
On a cold hospital bed.
As she wanted him to live,
His organs she chose to give.

Two hospitals’ coordination,
Traffic police’s rare operation,
Road users’ fine cooperation,
Enabled a heart transplantation.

An entire city rose as one,
To help this organ donation,
To save a young girl’s life,
And save her parents strife.

A mother turned her son’s loss,
Into an organ donation cause,
That galvanized an entire city,
To rise with pride and dignity.

Traffic was halted between the routes,
Of the two hospitals to carry the heart,
To the mother, public and police, SALUTES!
For giving another patient a new start.

I do not know my worth,
As a human on this earth.
But it is my burning desire,
Before being consigned to fire,
That my organs help those in dearth.
