Heaviness cast upon my weary eyes
Kept staring at the old wall
Played with chipped pieces of paint
that just stuck to my finger nails
Yawned and stretched but to no avail
Sleep eluded me as thoughts prevailed
Waited long turned and curled
Counted reverse from two hundred down
Looked at needle
Thought it was no fun
Suddenly I found an arm stroking my hair
A faint mumble asking if I was in despair
A warm breath caressed my shoulder
A kiss on my forehead made me secure and drift into slumber
Morning I woke up fresh as a flower
Turned to thank my spouse so dear
Without whom my day would have been
Not as clear as now it seemed
A peck on my cheek made me realize
His eyes were awake through the night
