Give Us More Reality TV

IMG_3116.JPG

We the audience,
The public
The market,
Might have some decorum left
Those ‘modes of communication’
Media -- in short
Were to enhance our lives
In images and with words

To make us soar with the
Possibility of how high
We could
Fly
With our dreams
How deep
We could think
How grand are
Our imaginations
And what noble potential
Our acts
hold

Please give us
More reality TV
More obscenity
More profanity
More shamelessness
More advertising
More self-centeredness
Until we are completely
Self-absorbed
And become a spectacle
Ourselves

Till no hint of separation
Is left between
Reality TV
And
Reality

Comment Thanks for the comment Pat. Yes, I wonder about that as well---what is/should be/can be the role in our society ---?

Comment Yes, yes - it is time to ask the media to look at itself and the values is shows. As a journalist - I often feel ashamed on my profession as we milk personal human tragedy when we try to see what forces are behind the pain and suffering.

Yes- journalism is often media on display - and not the stories. I think this poem talks wisely and well.
