When one is a refugee, one is not
considered in any other light than
one is human; one’s faith and culture lost
in the gaze of one’s fellow human beings.
Humanity dominates estimates of
who one is in a crisis; yet in settled
life, differentiation on the grounds of
nation and religion makes up the world.
Fair to say that within each nation there
is consciousness of human values, but
beset by selfish ones, be it the in-group
that proclaims to hold these exclusively.
The system of nations makes for world order,
the global reality is mankind;
it takes a crisis to bring out its truth
at both the receiving and giving end.
