On Earth Day felt I sad To think about The fortune of Earth.
I do not know Why in that reclined state Of celebration Came it the thoughts Making me sad and morose.
Felt I sad to think of Global warming, Climate change, Acid rain, The atomic summer,
Ruffling me uneasily With environmental pollution, Ecological disaster, Deforestation.

On Earth Day, the poem reminds us of so many things, the falling number of vultures, blue birds, porcupines, nuclear dregs being drifted into the sea waters, the oil spills harming the aquatic and marine life and the denuding of the hills, plastics strewn around and against the backdrop of it, how to celebrate it in the absence of men, birds, beasts and flowers, a harmonious presence ever felt by S.T.Coleridge in The Rime of The Ancient Mariner?
