Hunger

Hunger does strike and we all stride

To meet their needs of belly bride,

With daylong toil with sleepy eyes

In the stretch that far away so lies.

Far from the maddening city crowd

People with so little, feel so proud

The green pasture opens all around

Cattle roam freely as hunger-bound.

Fire in the belly activates the hands

Rather than building castle on sands.

Hunger in mind makes us thoughtful

Mind held high so grave and graceful.
