Theme: Innocence

A Guiltless Tale

The toddler on my lap, just three,
always used to be in a gay trot,
frisky, making me run after him
gasping for breath,
oddly restless.
No trace of sleep in his eyes.

Looking at his parent’s wedding stills
shoots at me his angst in a jiffy
“Why am I not in these pictures?”
Bemused, I look at him in disbelief.

My effort to ease his predicament
fails in efficacy,  nor to distract him.
Exhausting the last tool in my artillery
I make him choke in a deep embrace.
