I saw you in my mind one day. Walking in like a mystery, Opening doors, Drawing blinds, Until I reached out and tried to hold you close.
And then I felt the warmth of your pain, The depth of your anguish, The sibilance of your thoughts,
And held you close'to me, my mind, my self.
You wandered, sullen at times, Cheerful at others And left me to fathom the secrets of your smiles.
The words were spilling back to me Slowly. Returning from their anguished abyss To cover the blank spaces; To shed themselves through my oblivion, My hebetude.
Now I live again Through dark letters, Now wavering' Now hesitant' Now confident.
And I write' As though there is no yesterday again.
