Theme: Apathy

Inundation

What do I have here
In my mobile?
Jokes, Quotes,
Poems and Prose.
Words of response
Buttered with humor
Candor, warps of 'dear'
And a seemingly friendly
Call to me:
I being his 'buddy'.

Though he knows
That to me, he is
No more that friend
Of mine I once loved.

These baubles, trinkets
And candies of sugary
Sweet SMSes that he
Keeps sending me
Often telling a tale
Of how miserable he is
And yet he is doing these
Things to please me.
Does his plight warrant
Any sympathy?

No, Never. Not anymore
From me. I've had the bitter
Taste of his fake friendship
When he turned out to be
More of a foe than a friend,
Letting me down in every way.

No going back that way.
I know if I give in to his
Wayward charms, feeling
Vulnerable as before
He'll leave me writhing in pain.

And all my hurt will bolster
And boost his swelling pride
Of a victorious conquest on
The vanquished lover in me.

So let this inundation of his
Friendliness continue
Let him play his cards well
Now I know how to play them too.

I've seen his lack of empathy
His vacant 'care' of empty words
The scars of my painful past -
Still revive those ghastly memories
That so often flood me
In a deluge of silent tears
And sleepless nights.

Now, he has all the time for me
The once 'busy' man
Who made me await his mails
And messages for weeks and
Months endlessly
As if he was a VVIP.

When I used to query about his
Prolonged periods of nonchalant
Silence, he used to tell me not to
Expect as Expectations beget Pain.

That very same man
Now talks of living life
With hope.

He knows that he has lost me
Forever
So what is the point of all this
Hypocrisy?

Maybe with all his
Inundation of 'feel good'
Messages, he is trying to
Offer himself some
Self-consolation
With the hope of a
Reconciliation
As a lost and found
'Apu' that I was to him.

But all said and done,
I have only this to give him:
A Reminder: Don't Expect.
I may cause you pain.

Don't you know that
Expectations don't beget
Love, care, warmth and
Reciprocation?
They only beget Pain.
