Common Sense

The scriptures
emphasize and insist
to realize the Self

Unequivocally, they
do not want anyone
to look in the mirror

For appeasing opinions
of those who, perhaps don’t
even know themselves

I hear Amma's words echoing:
Love yourself
by being true to yourself

Indeed loving is not an easy joke! According to Swami Vivekananda I have heard saying that as far as love is concerned,, first love your Self, then love others and then only it is possible to love God! This is the case with love of God! But reach God according to Adi Sankara first one should have knowledge of God, then only one can think of reaching Him finally! According to Ramanuja, without devotion, one cannot even realzie God! So, without love and knowledge, nothing is possible!

Comment Common sense involves think twice, nay a thousand times.

Comment This is a Shakespearean line, possibly borrowed from Hinduism; 'To thine own self be true, thou canst then be false to no man.' Fagan in the film 'Oliver' has the same idea. after some thought expressed on the subject in 'I think I better think it out again'. He concludes he will be true to his self: ' I'm a bad un, and a bad un I will stay'. Being true to one's self is a poor standard for morality, even for the best among us, but being true to a divine priciple of morality, or at least aspiring to be, is the best any of us can do. That is why we are by definition, all of us, sinners.

Comment True. Realisation is beyond worldly reasoning and logic.
