Theme: Inspiration

Mother

Oh Mother, my greatest teacher
On life's philosophy, an unparalleled preacher
Your endless love, where else can I find?
It is pure, abundant, warm and kind

You nurtured in me - morals, respect, values and character
The alphabets of ethics from the first to the last character
You taught me the science of kites and prisms
And simplified the gist of countless isms

When I committed a mistake, you rebuked me for sure
But I realize, your intentions were inherently pure
Your words are axioms that shape me to perfection
Your methods are unique, full of affection

Wisdom and experience were your teaching tools
I cannot find them - even in the best of schools
To carve me you needed no chisel, no maquette
Ironical - you've never compromised on precision yet

You made my dreams your goals and helped me succeed
Always inspiring me to put my best in every single deed
Mother, there is no treasure which is greater than you
To state this, I do not need any proof or a clue

There wouldn't be a metric to measure you
There wouldn't be an accolade to qualify you
On earth, you are the greatest institution
Discipline you enforced is ideal constitution

You are that school of which thy kids cannot be alumni
Because you do not offer any degrees for us to try
Yes, it is a place where I could never become graduated
But with passing of every year, I became a lot more learned

Words are poor replacements to thank your ethereal love
Which is eternally constant - past, future or now
All I can pay you is my promise in return
To strive to be your school's dream intern

Oh Mother! Forever you are my sole principle
Oh Mother! Forever I am your simple disciple

Comment When I read poems like this I am taken aback that my mother wasn't the only one. May I add that a mother teaches one how to behave in adult company, always to keep up a good appearance, well-groomed and polite, and never to 'disgrace' her by bad table manners.
