Cursory

The infatuated innocence
raised the bar to place the beloved
on a pedestal, virtually deifying,
naming it as Unconditional Love

Until the passage of time exposed
the not godly, but all too human traits,
burdened with one’s own weaknesses,
erasing the hallowed ideas

In place, then appeared concepts of
pity, consolation, fate, sympathy, etc.
Even a cursory exchange became
a tirade or an invective and tiring chore
