A new decade rolled in
ushering with it new hope
As I set new year resolutions
of losing weight and meeting new people
Nature had a lesson in store
for my frivolous goals
A deadly virus started to emerge
and with it came fear and apprehension
Soon we were all in a long shutdown
and life was put on hold
With every new infection
Some brave angels emerged
Putting themselves at risk
to save the future of humanity.
But the human spirit found little victories
In the haul of toilet paper at Costco
or the giant can of Purell
while battling the biggest pandemic in centuries
Divided America shook to its core
As we questioned race and law and order
but again the power of democracy
spoke loud and clear with our vote
Every dark side does have
a bright opposite
The vaccine rollout is finally here
with hopes of vanquishing the virus
The year is finally at its end
ushering with it new hope
