One Never Knows

You think you know
confined together many years under
the same roof passing one another
each morning
breakfasts
lunches
dinners
passing one another each evening

You shared some words, some
thoughts at times
and they shared theirs
in the kitchen
at the table
placed as bread to be sliced and
devoured
passed into oblivion

You think you know them and they
you
all the while enmeshed
in starkly surreal visions

You cannot know them
nor they you
never
ever...
