The flavour of freshly brewed coffee,
The incessant barking of street dogs,
The whirring of the neighbour’s grinder,
I’m reliving childhood memories.
The sounds of city life fade away,
The constant need to be on the move,
The stress of having to meet deadlines,
I’m learning the joys of relaxing.
The chorus of the birds in the trees,
The gentle breeze and the swaying palms,
The ignored glories and gifts of nature,
I’m reviving my old connections.
The muezzin’s call and the beggar’s whine,
The reminder that nothing has changed,
The simple folk still lead simple lives,
I’m happy to join them for a while.
The high fashion and exuberance,
The hard work and late-night partying,
The city traffic snarls, I’ll not miss
I’m feeling like I’m living again.
