Mahavir Jayanti

Lord Mahavira,

Just a glimpse of him

Absolves us of sin.

How bereft of everything,

Royal robe, hypocrisy and ego,

He is lost in meditation

To be one with consciousness

Beyond human comprehension!

A Jina, 

Conqueror of the Self

With victory over physical wants,

He is renowned for penance and light

Which he imparted

Preaching the lessons in non-violence,

Truth and austerity.

I see the statue

So archaeological, primitive,

Historical, artistic,

Old and sculptural

And think of Jainism.
