Do We Hear Them?

(Inspired by a touching WhatsApp forward)

 

Please knock on my door

I do not ask for more

It’ll be my day shaper

As you deliver the newspaper

 

I have no one to talk to

I have nowhere to walk to

My husband has long departed

Leaving me broken-hearted

 

My children have flown the coop

They no longer keep me in the loop

I am not techno-savvy you see

With their new lingo I am all at sea

 

So knock on my door each morn

I do not ask for more, I am worn

If I don’t answer your knock my dear

She said with eyes moist and blear

 

Please call my son on this number

Inform him I haven’t woken from slumber

Your lonely mother has died today

Ask him to pray for my soul if he may
