The orangutans of
Bali, Borneo,
Indonesia, Malaysia,
The apes, human-like,
But different from us
In look, behaviour and gesture,
Reddish-haired, black-faced
Orangutans
Hanging from trees,
Eating fruits,
Living together with
Their babies and
Their juveniles,
What a primitive world
Of pristine creatures!
How their space, habitats,
The rainforests where they live
Face threats posed to them
By human encroachment
Intruding into their solitude,
The inroads made into forests
For modernity and development,
Trade and commerce
At the cost of those wilds!
