High time you settle down

Before you are called a spinster

I advised my daughter

Mummy spinster is archaic

And the term is obsolete

Was her retort

Accompanied by a snort

Bachelorettes are we

Ageless like our counterparts

With good hearts.

I decided to settle down

Said she at last

Relieved was I

But her next words

Mummy, in Down Under

Left me with wonder

And equally helpless
