Off to school is the young boy
With old grandfather in tow
Weighed down by his school bag
As a backpack
Lunch bag slung on his shoulder
Watching every step on the busy road
With a protective eye on the grandson
Who merrily precedes the old man
Who bears the burden of the child's whole lot of books
Who has to compulsorily take them whether required or not.
The scene takes me back to my school days
When we were not beasts of burden
But were able to board the bus
By carrying our own school bags
With our lunch box safely placed inside
And without ending with bent backs.
