An elderly lady came to me
From an Old Age Home
She was white and dried
Her blood sugar was up
Her blood pressure was down
Before she fainted
She clutched my pen
And tried to write
She grasped my eyes
And told me her life
Her son cajoled her
Mama you are confused
We treated her
I wrote her death certificate today
The Funeral Parlor Man said
She passed away in the presence of
Inmates of the Old Age Home.
My father told me that I love my children
More than
Him
He cried like my children
And held my hand in gentle touch
Till he gave away...
I hold the secrets
Of many, hunchbacked
Grief that I contain
With love and
Memories.
