Cornucopia

We children spent hours admiring flowers
striking friendship with corolla beauties hanging
from trees, sprouting in bushes.
Playful nose smelling
kissing marigold, lily, rose, lotus
loving petals tenderly.
"Champa, Chameli, Rajnigandha, Belli .."
All pretty.
Sucked stems for honey; out of leaves made flutes. Threading
fluorescent garlands lit glorious; heavenly red hibiscus blooming;
to adorn our Mother Goddess "Ma Kali"
with her tongue out in embarrassment.
"Her husband Shiva lay on floor, her feet touching his body."
At dawn and dusk we
Offered our prayers; mango-leaf buds with rubicund smear;
flowers as
"Shradhanjali" fruits as "Prasadam" burnt incense, blowing conchs.
