Theme: Devotion

Your Sweetness

Your sweetness will spill over and shower
All over the sky
How else will it touch my mind
So much of your light has been dropping
From the sun and the planets and the stars
In innumerable streams
It will become full
Only when it will fill my soul
So much of your color has been dyeing
All these flowers like sleep
They will open their eyes
Only when they will touch my being
So much of your love
Throbs through your world in joy
In a moment it will ring in a song
Only when it will fill my heart.

Translation of the devotional song Tomar ei madhuri chhapiye akash jhorbe- by Rabindranath Tagore. Best recording of this song is by Kanika Banerji. The original with its swaralipi or notation is at http://www.rabindra-rachanabali.nltr.org/node/3829.

Comment It is one of the sweetest songs of Rabindranath. You have to listen to Kanika to appreciate how sweet it is. This is not possible merely by reading the lyric however sweet it may be. Composed on 18th September, 1914, its notation is to be found in Swarabitan vol. 43. If you can play some musical instrument Mr. Bamba, you may try playing it to enjoy its sweetness. It is heavenly. Unfortunately I cannot convey it through my transcreation of the lyric.
