Youth Forgets

Youth Forgets1.jpg
Freezing white snow blowing
feet of stone held to the ground
bent breast head down going
nowhere on this cold, cold night

A scarecrow left from autumn
dead-looking as the thick gray clouds
the harvest long, long gone
the table empty
winter bones

Is mean inside her coat collar
pulled tight 'round
full of spite she was without
color, feelings, youthful grace

And after long a feeling
comes away like rain she cannot catch
chase it, chase it down the lane
like youth it's gone
like youth, forgets
