Life like a night train
Rolls on
Its coaches are full of sleep
And the night is deep.
In endless darkness
Obliterated in black
What does not seem to exist
Exists
In an unknown land beyond sleep.
A momentary light
Flickers for a while
And passes an unknown station
To reach another station
Equally unknown.
In the silent night
Its pilgrimage is long
The distance nobody knows
Nor where it is destined.
His name
The driver does not disclose
Some say, it's a machine
No more nor less.
It has no mind
Yet like one who is blind
Him they blindly trust
With their very life
And go to sleep.
They also say
Everything is uncertain
Though they know
Its speed is steady and certain.
The nameless one
Who passes them off and on
Without their knowing
Seems to breath among them
Unseen.
In its truth
Sometimes they believe
Sometimes they doubt.
Under endless skies
Without any break
The train moves on
They are unconscious in sleep
Their minds also sleep
Yet a morning they expect
At the journey's end.
