I heard You whisper in my ears:
'You'll find me in an orphan's tears'
But I also saw You in strangers' smiles
As heavily I trudged life's many miles.
Even as You lurked in winter's gloom
And smirked in summer's perky bloom
I heard You patter on the earth's dry bosom
Then spring up from her ~ a pretty blossom.
You are sweet nectar, as much the ivy's poison,
You are the sea and the speck on the horizon
You are love's glory and also its treason;
You ~ the cause, the effect and life's reason
You blink down from the pale blue sky
Just as you wink from a lover's eye,
You live as much in a widow's sad heart
As in naked Cupid's well-aimed dart.
In the bride's coy blush You rosily glow,
Later, in her womb to merrily grow
You are Time's wrinkles on aging grace,
You are smile's crinkles on a baby-face.
Turn where we want, we will find You there
Where is the escape? You are everywhere!
You are the Absolute, You, the fragmented
You the Indivisible, You the segmented!
