In all the long or short poems of love
is mention only made of male or female
allurements, and so geared to rise above
what natural bonding is made to entail.
That the partners in these high-flown amours
are rapt in a state of ecstatic union
makes no mention nature in them empowers
of offspring; though themselves products of one.
True to say in nature courtship display
is to one as yet invisible end -
sexual union is only nature’s way
to bring forth new life from two so conjoined.
And we are part of nature, no ideal
in our love poem but that our love bears fruit -
the poets sin greatly not to reveal
the romance of love is children at root.
