The way of God is subtlety – in nature
revealed in form and movement, leaf and flower,
the very wind that in the branches stir
a freedom of expression to empower.
A bird’s call tunes itself to subtlety,
breaks forth in mastery of tone and phrase;
the silence holds within its frailty
all the communication of our days.
But what in nature is pure harmony
a paradigm lost is for humankind,
which prides itself on lack of subtlety
as the means of ruling out the Divine.
In blatant terms of the empirical
sense is raised to be supreme arbiter,
but neither stays nor is inimical
to subtlety – the way of God on earth.
