This I have found about morality
that it works only when it is the safe
thing to do: if it’s safe to be immoral,
then that fact makes the action viable.
Thus moral laws are statements of what
is safe to do, whether they be of God
or man, to infringe which brings retribution,
thus render immorality unsafe.
But if actions assume morality when safe,
the safety of the action comes to determine
its morality; the classic case of polygamy,
right in one moral context, wrong in another.
Or take, Thou shalt not kill, in war is waived,
A government the moral authority;
or take, Thou shalt not steal, the crime
to himself someone might reconcile as just.
Morality is not about something defined
as right, but about self fulfilment, it drives
the outcast and the deprived to be
Accepted, or to find a subterfuge in safety.
