For years he had toiled in this land,
Leaving his homeland years ago,
Working at long hours for low wages,
In the hope of a better morrow for his family,
He had saved to give his children,
A good education in the best universities,
He had worked with his neighbors shoulder to shoulder,
And paid his taxes honestly like any citizen,
He was as religious and God fearing,
And had not committed a crime against any one,
But yet now he was being abused, assaulted.
And asked to leave this land which he served,
He had shared his neighbors joys and sorrows,
And yet in this hour they left him alone,
For years he had struggled, saved to build,
A better life for him and his adopted land,
But now they suspect him to be a traitor,
Just because his skin was of a different color.
