She stepped out of the wash room
In fear, a completely broken woman
With a black eye and a broken nose
She had spent the night in the bath tub
After securely locking the door to avoid
Further battering and confrontation with
The violent man she called her husband
To the oudside world he was a winner
A thorough gentleman, incapable of
Harming an ant, the perfect ladies' man
But only Ginger the dog knew the truth
He supported his mistress and sat by her
After every altercation with the master
He would literally lick her wounds lovingly
She often wondered what life would
Have been like without her pet Ginger
When things really went out of hand
She decided to approach the courts, but
By the time the case came up for hearing
Her wounds had healed, the wily husband
Was careful not to cause any external hurt
Given his sterling reputation and the fact
That she had no witnesses to support her
She was afraid to face the judge until
An idea struck her, why not let Ginger
Accompany her to court as moral support
With special permission she walked in
Bravely with him and her advocate
After she gave her testimony and was
Queried by the defendant's advocate
His numerous witnesses arrived to
Confirm that her story was fabricated
The Judge heard them out and requested
The husband to take the stand, but as soon
As he started speaking Ginger growled
Then as the lady's advocate quizzed him
Each time he opened his mouth to reply
The dog responded with angry barks
The astonished Judge cast a glance
In Ginger's direction and averred clearly
If only dogs could take the witness stand
My job would have been far easier!!!
