That modern distances are easily
Attained is, after all, not something new:
Why, long ago, the Romans marched, and few
The miles made of the thousands: mentally,
The distance was the same, from A to B;
Once this was grasped, the execution too
Accommodated; what is more, when through,
Each trek took on the physicality
Of that accomplished, enshrined in idea:
Thus could kings rule whole countries, which in mind
Delineated achieved the control;
And war, too, is projection of a kind,
A distance crossed; that modern times appear
Emboldened is the sighting of the whole. |
