Theme: Appearances

What I Do Have

I don’t have the perfect nose,
luscious lips, cheeks the colour of a rose.
I don’t have beautiful hair,
soft hands or eyes that stop you with their stare.

I'm not the perfect picture to paint,
nor am I a poet's inspiration.
Honestly, I can also say,
I'm not even close to that direction.

I don’t wear the trendiest clothes,
or have all the worldly treasures.
But I do have some finer things,
whose worth has no measure.

I have the lips that speak kind words,
the eyes that twinkle when you smile.
I have the hands that are outstretched,
to help you go an extra mile.

I have the shoulder
to lend when you need to cry.
I have the ears to hear your woes,
trust me, I'll never say goodbye.

I have a heart that gives you warmth,
a soul that gives you light.
I have love that I can give,
morning, noon and night.

I have the courage to stand,
when everything seems to fall apart.
I have the strength to make my dreams come true,
and will do so before it's time to depart.

What you are from within,
heart and soul in rhyme.
Everything else is superficial,
it'll wither away with time!

Comment Perrin,

In these times, where poetry is more of senseless prose, your verses are like the sound of gurgling water from a mountain stream. So soothing.

"I have the courage to stand,
when everything seems to fall apart.
I have the strength to make my dreams come true,
and will do so before it's time to depart."

I hardly go beyond the first four lines of most poems posted on boloji, but you are an exception. I would love to recite a few of your poems at the next reading of Poets of Delhi.

Wishing you the very best in your writings.
