Theme: Love

Pamela Beyless

"I used to think that life was all about getting married, having children and growing old. But it's not. It is being able to love and, most importantly, being loved." Pamela Beyless wrote these lines in her diary shortly before she died of the human form of BSE in Oct 1998. She was only 24.

Dear Pamela, in the photo a flower,
Soft pink and lilac, a special smile that
Lasts to this day, lifting with grace and power
The dream of what we still call the perfect
Life; that we yet fail to discern its meaning
Was given you to see.  It is not so much
About achieving ends, more about leaning
And being leaned upon; that love is such
A power for good entirely convinced you
In the end. We, locked each in his own world,
Hover in your image, and make the break-through
Painlessly, our view by your words controlled:
At least, for now; for there's many a death
That's gone before, and words for each last breath.
