(a phenomenon of global warming)
It's summer in November - have you ever
Seen the like! Foliage that's outstayed its welcome:
Never thought to see the day, the quite unwholesome,
Clinging heat, autumn tones effete -- for never
Gaining momentum; August and September
Are climbing, and October's gone not come;
The atheistic greenery for some
Strange reason -- call it empathy, whatever --
Defies; defiles the eye that loves the season
Of mists and mellow... all that Keatsian drill;
If here and there a leaf does fall, its pace
Unhurried, stranger evocation still
Crosses the mind, and quite surpassing reason
At the time, thrills! - As 'twere a heavenly grace! |
