All knowledge is nothing, if it is not
The truth; therefore is knowledge linked to power,
The power of truth; a foolish mind may plot
A world dominion in some far-flung hour,
Accumulating facts; a wise man simply
Knows truth, and finds its value is its virtue,
A code of living, life itself; and limply
Does fool's gold compare, hoarding to continue
Till truth's forgotten, falsehood to usurp
Its place: that knowledge is power, it may prove
To be the case materially, disturb
Wisdom's composure if it could, but move
Truth not! - Behold! the bristling universe
Spreads out; but truth is life, not Eden's curse. |
