It is the face of things that makes the future:
screens, phones, books, bottles turned appropriately;
and face to face is most expressively
the present: billboards magnify the culture
in giant gaze small gazes drawn to capture;
and facing forward, upward, downwardly,
do things together focus reverently:
a world event, achievements, moral stature;
the face of people in the street, at home;
in cars, trains, planes, fixed on some mute crescendo
like supernovae; in eternity
as stamps; tradition, history become
the backward looking; true humanity
the bright face of hope, the day in tomorrow. |
