I step out daily into a fair
Donning my own special mask
And though you may or may not see it
You must never ask.
These masks of mine I've cleverly woven
Though it's taken me many years
I've learnt to brocade sorrow with laughter
And hide my many fears.
So for the world I'm full of cheer
And for the world I laugh out loud
And for the world I'm the loveliest person
And for the world I'm proud.
But when I turn my key in the evening
To the arms of the lonely night.
I hang up my cleverly woven mask
And stand alone in the light.
