As to God, as to prayer,
I make no estimate of what is there,
Nor, equally, can I make the measure
Of faith in this world and its pleasure.
Some aspiration fills my mind
The same to which the world though blind
Sets its manufactured compass
And sees in steps all come to pass.
The two faiths are in sync, God and the world,
So much so that both make bold
The future to extrapolate
From the same imagery and fate.
Often the two become confused
Faith in the world is faith abused
But worldly faith has an excellence
That for its ends spares no expense.
Indeed, the world now shows the way
Where formerly faith in God held sway:
Man must serve man that man serve God
Converts to what the world holds good.
And it seems that God has bowed
To this outcome, as if it showed
The world has been the place of truth
God has loved, thereon placed His foot. |
