Theme: Pain

Anguish

When in the middle of the night
A muffled sob escaped
The silent night too softly cried
With dew the ground it bathed

A gentle moon through clouds appeared
The moonlight hazily fell
To see from where the sigh arose
For whom the tears did swell

From despairing depths did arise
Anguished cries of pain
To the Heavens pleading mercy
Mercy to the stars in vain

A burdened life with grief in tow
So snapped a tender mind
Wishes now no more to live
To live and bear the grind

Comment Thanks Rupradha. This poem is the painful outcome of a real life instance of a woman physically abused by her husband regularly; unsupported by her insensitive and selfish parents and maligned by her in-laws ! A women with two small childen who helplessly witnessed this daily cruelty meted out to their mother; a society that mutely witnessed this drama and a government that pays only lip service to women in distress.
