In prison was I for sixteen long years
Half of which in solitary confinement
Ask me, ‘why?’ Answer is, ‘my innocence’
Wrong judgment of police officials
Penitentiary life
Was a string of vulgar show of power!
Day in and day out
Language not sweet to my ears
food not to my taste
Relations with fellow inmates
A far flung distant haste to introspect
Freed am I now
Ask me “Are you free?”
Answer is, ‘My perception of ‘free’
died in penitentiary life
