A Rainy Day

the rains lashed
against his window pane
thunder sounded
through his wooden doors
but he slept
right through the noise

knowing he was alone
a kind neighbour came by
to check on him
he knocked loudly
on the heavy door yet
no one stirred

rather concerned
the good Samaritan
decided to call
the fire brigade for help
the engines rolled in
sounding their sirens loudly

yet the man seemed
to sleep very soundly
soon water was gushing
into his low lying home
his bed floated and he felt
he was on the high seas

his world of dreams
was finally
rudely disturbed
as his bed tilted
and he landed
on  the wet floor

when they manged
to get into his home
the firemen found
him soaking wet & lost
rubbing his eyes
he was stone deaf
