I’m reminded of the little
fairy cakes we used to eat
as kids and the way you used
to pick out the starry confetti
and smear buttercream on
my frock, your mischievous
stamp of affection for me.
you were so confident about
being the best in everything
you did and when I think of
you today, I wonder why
you don’t think of yourself,
this way, anymore,
the way you used to,
many years ago.
