Theme: Abstract

In Vain

Acquiring a little bit of expertise,
as kids after learning just a few dance steps
wish to perform in public,

I too made a vain attempt to be a portrait painter,
a nitwit, I leapt where angels for sure will fear
In search of the model I approached the wind,
‘In no way I shall oblige, I have no time
to sit quiet in front of you to fake a smile.

On the seashore at dawn and dusk I prefer to ruffle
the long, soft and silken young curls.’
Ever fond of high wave next I knocked its door.
‘Though you like me, I shall disappoint you’,
the receding wave spoke with a mischievous smile,
‘The young ones with bikini are waiting for me for a long while.’

Here too my efforts proved to be futile.
Without losing hope I reached the pool of lotus
to be once again disheartened by its cold response,
‘Soon I shall be off to the shrine,
in Lord’s presence truly I feel divine.’

I realized at last little knowledge is dangerous,
It makes no sense for a half-painter to be amorous.

Comment Thank you, Rupradha. Yes, what you say is true. We get not only solace but strength too from the divine. Love.
