She packs her bags
and gets ready to leave
a sigh of relief
her mother does heave
no more tantrums
after her late nights out
no more arguments
about cleaning her room
is it normal
the older woman asks herself
to feel a sense of peace
when one's daughter goes away
the answer is one
that she may never come to know
involuntarily a tear appears
she realises that she will miss her
and sends up a prayer
to God to protect her daughter
